Two Years of Inspiration: Architect of the Month

Twentytwo architects, three countries, and a shared passion for better surroundings. This month we are celebrating two years of our Architect of the Month series.

Two Years of Inspiration: Architect of the Month

An interesting journey

For 24 months we have worked with talented architects from across the Nordics. They have shared their stories, their passion, and their perspectives on what it means to shape the built environment we all live in. The journey has been anything but predictable, and that is exactly what has made the series so rewarding.

The first year introduced us to the breadth of Nordic architecture. The second year has shown us its depth: architects who challenge themselves, who cross the boundaries between disciplines, and who are driven by something bigger than form and function alone.

We at Nordic BIM Group are grateful for every one of these collaborations. It is a privilege to sit close to the people who shape tomorrow's buildings, and to share their stories with you. Architect of the Month is still among our most read content, and that tells us these stories matter.

Share your story. Become Architect of the Month and show Nordic architects what you stand for.

The second year of Architect of the Month

Let us take one more look back at the eleven architects who have been part of our journey this year.

We have met architects from Finland, Norway, and Sweden, with roots and references that reach from Poland to Chile, and with projects from Lofoten to Greece. Different backgrounds, different specialisations, and different career paths. But what they all share is that they see architecture as more than a profession. It is a calling.

Architects with people at the centre

Pål Ross (SE) was born in Stockholm in 1961 and was fully set on becoming an engineer. Machines and industry were the plan. But architecture's ability to create homes for people pulled harder.

Nicole Stobbe (NO) does not draw schools as objects. She draws them as flexible everyday machines for learning, safety, and community.

Ewelina Pajak (SE) is an architect, engineer, and WELL Accredited Professional at LINK Arkitektur AB, and a clear voice for architecture with empathy.

The community builders

Anne Kaivo-oja (FI) is a specialist in designing daycare centres. For Anne, architecture is not only the art of building. It is the building of society.

Sofia Juntunen (FI) is the first architect in Finland to write a thesis on the connection between architecture and self-destructive behaviour.

Architects driven by passion and place

Marius Egeland (NO) leads Marius Egeland Arkitekter in Lillesand with a clear specialisation: custom-built homes and cabins.

Anton Riadi Aravena (NO) built his first "architecture" in third grade: a model of Santiago, Chile. Today he runs his own practice.

Architecture that meets technology and the future

Erik Björnhage (SE) is an architect and project manager at Insikt in Gothenburg.

Fredrik Sillrén (SE) completed what may be his most ambitious project: a new office and control-room building for Boliden in Skellefteå, Sweden.

Classical foundation, international perspective

Nils Freckéus (SE) works from Stockholm with a strictly classical approach.

Aaro Söderlund (FI) is proof that Nordic architecture does not have to choose between local roots and a global horizon.

Two years and the road ahead

When we look back on two years and 22 architects from Finland, Norway, and Sweden, one word comes to mind: dedication.

Architect of the Month has been among our most read content, and we look forward to a third year, and to the stories we do not yet know.
