IFC is the language your project speaks when architects, engineers, and consultants work in different tools. This course makes you confident in it. You learn to model toward a correct IFC file, bring in other disciplines' models as reference, control the translators and properties, and avoid the failures that break a handover. Instructor-led by Nordic BIM Group specialists, in person or online, taught on the national Archicad template, the same starting point your own office template is built on. Assumes you already know the Archicad basics.
BIM & IFC in Practice: produce clean IFC and collaborate across disciplines with Archicad
Who it's for
One course for people who already work in Archicad and now have to exchange models with other disciplines. It assumes you have the basics, so if you are new to Archicad, start with Archicad Fundamentals. Pick the situation that sounds like you.
You send IFC and hope it comes out right
You export to IFC for a consultant or a coordinator, and you are never quite sure what they receive. You learn to model with the export in mind, so the file you send is structured, complete, and correct the first time.
You design against other disciplines' models
You work in Archicad and need the engineers' and other consultants' models around you while you design. You learn to bring their IFC files in as live reference with Archicad's hotlink workflow, and to read what their IFC actually contains.
You lead a team that delivers IFC on every project
Your office delivers IFC on every project, and a bad handover costs real rework. Book the group, or talk to an advisor about training a whole team to produce IFC the same way, on your own template.
You work in an adjacent discipline
You design interiors, landscape, or retail spaces in Archicad and still have to deliver into a shared model. You learn the same IFC and openBIM skills your collaborators expect, so your work fits into the wider project.
What you'll learn
By the end you can produce an IFC file you trust, bring others' models in as reference, and fix the problems before they reach a coordinator. Here is the scope.
A good IFC file starts in how you build the model, not in the export dialog. You learn simple modelling habits that carry through to a correct IFC: how elements, storeys, and spaces should be set up so they survive the export and arrive the way you intended. Get this right and most IFC problems never happen.
You learn to bring other consultants' IFC files into your project as live reference using Archicad's hotlink workflow, so you design against the real engineering or architectural model instead of a flat drawing. You leave able to keep those references up to date as the project moves.
The translator decides what happens when you export. You learn what runs in the background, how to read and adjust the translators that ship in the Nordic BIM Group templates, and how to set up an export that matches what the receiver asked for.
Data is half of what an IFC file delivers. You learn how Archicad properties relate to IFC properties, how to map them so classifications and parameters land in the right place, and how to stop the data being lost on the way out.
Most IFC pain is the same handful of mistakes. You learn to spot and prevent them: missing classifications, elements that export wrong, data that does not come through, geometry that breaks. You also learn to check a model you receive, so a problem from another discipline does not become yours. Rule-based model checking and clash detection happen in Solibri; this course gets your own IFC right before it gets there.
