What is a cloud-based license?

"Cloud-based licensing" refers to cloud-based software licensing – the method that modern software companies use to license and distribute their products to customers using cloud technology.

When you purchase a subscription, licensing happens automatically and in the background – you don't need to get or enter any keys. Simply log in to the application with your Graphisoft ID, and you're ready to go.

What is the benefit of cloud-based licenses?

  • No "licensing steps" are needed – the licensing process happens automatically in the background.
  • With a cloud-based license, you don't have to worry about losing or damaging a license key.
  • With a cloud-based license, you can use your software on multiple devices (one device at a time), as you can easily transfer your license from one device to another.

When is a cloud-based license right for me?

You should choose a cloud-based license for your new subscription if both of the following conditions apply:

  • You plan to start new projects in Archicad 26 or later.
  • You don't plan to edit projects with older versions of Archicad.

Using a cloud-based license requires an internet connection, but once the license is activated, you can also work offline (see below).

Can I work offline if I have a cloud-based license?

Yes. Once you have activated your cloud-based license (internet is required for activation), you can go offline at any time and work without an internet connection for up to 7 days.

Then, when you reconnect to the internet, the license is reactivated. After that, you can go offline again whenever you need to, for another period of 7 days.

If I purchase a cloud-based license for Archicad 26, can I also use it for Archicad 25 and earlier versions?

No. With the new cloud-based license:

  • You can create new projects in Archicad 26 and later.
  • You can migrate solo projects from older versions to Archicad 26 and later.

Please note! You can't migrate Teamwork projects from older versions, because migration requires you to run the older version of Archicad, which the cloud-based license (for Archicad 26 or later) doesn't support. So, you can continue in the old TW project with the included Compatibility license (works for AC 25 or older projects) that is included in the new cloud-based Subscription license (works for AC 26 or newer projects).

To run older versions of Archicad, you need to use a key-based license: A key-based license needs to be on your computer, either in the form of a so-called "key-based license." soft key or physical USB codemeter. Both of these types are replaced with the Compatibility license (which is also a so-called Compability license). Soft key) is downloaded to your computer when you upgrade to the new Subscription.

TW projects started in AC 26 or newer can be added to Graphisoft's BIMCloud server as it is included in your new Subscription. You keep the old projects that you have now on your local server, for example.

Of course, it is possible to lift up old Teamwork projects by converting the project to a pln file, upgrading to a new version and then distributing it again (for example via Graphisoft's BIMcloud, which is included in the new Subscription).

If the cloud-based license is associated with my Graphisoft account, but I don't need it, can my colleague use it instead?

Yes! The enterprise administrator can go to the License Management page and reassign the license to your colleague. You don't even have to release the license from your computer.

What if I have left Archicad running on my home computer, but am now on the move and need to use my license on my laptop?

Don't worry! Launch Archicad on your laptop. You will be redirected to your License Management page (internet required), where you can release the license from your home computer. The license is then available for use on your laptop.

What happens if I use Archicad offline and my computer breaks down? Will I lose my license?

Don't worry, your cloud-based license is secure.

Launch Archicad on a new computer. You will be guided to your License Management page (internet required), where you can release the license from the damaged computer. The license is then available for use on the new computer.

Key-based licensing (existing licensing form)

What is key-based licensing?

"Key-based" is the licensing method that is already familiar to users of Graphisoft products. This means that you activate your software using a key—either a hardware device that you connect, or a software key that you download. Terms such as "dongle," "software key," "hardware key," and "WIBU license" all refer to the existing key-based licensing method.
